In 2026, within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, La Valenciana will welcome Swedish conductor Leif Karlsson, an experience that will allow us to continue broadening our musical horizons and sharing different approaches to wind band work.

Leif Karlsson is a renowned Swedish conductor and one of the leading figures in symphonic wind music in his country. He currently serves as conductor of the Home Guard Band in Gothenburg and Artistic Director of the Uppsala Wind Symphony. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous Scandinavian orchestras and has played a decisive role in strengthening the national and international profile of Swedish wind bands. Before dedicating himself fully to conducting, he was a founding member of the prestigious percussion ensemble Kroumata, with which he developed an extensive international career. His work has been recognised with several awards, and he is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

The visit will take place from 27 February to 1 March, during which he will actively participate in the band’s activities, conducting several rehearsals and working on a varied repertoire including symphonic works for wind band, pieces from Swedish traditional music, and representative works from the Valencian band tradition. This combination will allow us to create a musical dialogue between different traditions and aesthetics, highlighting both international repertoire and our own band heritage.

In addition to rehearsals, the weekend will include opportunities for exchange and interaction with the musicians, as well as more informal moments that will encourage social interaction and dialogue. Among the planned activities are a shared paella and a closing discussion or breakfast session, where we will be able to share impressions about the work carried out and reflect on the experience.

With this visit, we continue to consolidate Erasmus+ as a meaningful tool for artistic and personal growth within La Valenciana, strengthening our ties with other European musical realities and opening new perspectives for the future of the band.
