La Valenciana, our band in Barcelona.
La Valenciana SMPVB is the reference band for Valencian musicians living in Barcelona and its surroundings. Open to any musician, whether professional or amateur, regardless of their origin. Under the umbrella of Casa València in Barcelona, we support and work for music, culture and language. And we do it together with the Espai País Valencià, the Muixeranga de Barcelona, the Colla Borumballa and the dance group ‘La de la Panxa Pelà’.

The history of the band
La Banda la Valenciana, Sociedad Musical del País Valencià in Barcelona, was created in 2016 in the city of Barcelona.
The seed of the group was planted by Casa València in Barcelona and the Espai País Valencià years before. Its members had created the charanga ‘la Mentireta’ with which they performed in the streets of the neighbourhood.
In March 2016, casa València organised the ‘I Entradeta de Moros y Cristianos en la Vila de Gracia’ and made a call via social networks to Valencian musicians living in the city and its surroundings to participate. The call was a success and was the spark that was missing to create the band.
Thus, in April of that same year, the first concert of La Valenciana took place.
Since then we have performed mainly in the city of Barcelona but also in other cities in Catalonia and País Valencià
We highlight the participation in all the editions of the Cycle ‘Bandes als Ateneus’ of the Institute of Culture of the Barcelona City Council (ICUB) since its creation; the performance in 2019 in the 43rd Contest of Bands of the Diputació de València that took place in the Palau de la Música of the city, the participation in the 20th Festival de Bandas de la FCSM at the Barcelona Auditorium in November 2021 or the Brassuround Festival in Torrent, with the metal quintet Spanish Brass, and the Sónar Festival in Barcelona, accompanying the singer Niño de Elche, in 2022.
In the street we have performed at the Corpus Christi procession in Barcelona in 2022 and 2024, at the Moros i Cristians festivities in Lleida since 2021, at the 3 tombs in Catellbisbal, as well as at different meetings organised by the Catalan Federation of Musical Societies, of which we form part.
Our members are mainly Valencian, but we also have participation from Catalonia, the rest of Spain and other countries such as Italy and the United States. Since our foundation we have been directed by Vicent Coleto and our deputy director is Joan Miquel Ripoll.
